Aethos is aiming to improve the recycling of materials from aircraft that stop flying. It’s known that a complete aircraft will never be completely recycled. A lot of components are removed to support other aircraft that are still flying. This is what is called “reuse”. After all components are removed a lot of creativity gets involved. Before the recycling, sections are removed for “repurpose”.

Reuse is the most important one from the aviation point of view. The components removed from aircraft that stop flying will be used to keep other aircraft flying. This process doesn’t avoid waste, it avoids components for those aircraft to be made. In some case the production of a replacement component required to keep the aircraft flying might not be possible or take a very long time. By removing a components from an aircraft that stop flying gives a direct solution to keep the other aircraft active. Aethos is helping the aviation sector to also improve the recycling of the components that can’t be used anymore.

For repurposing there are two categories. The first one is repurposing aircraft elements for the aviation world. Sections are used to train aviation mechanics for example. They use an old aircraft section on how to do maintenance according to aviation manuals. But also sections are boasted, cockpits are removed and transferred into a simulator. A perfect way for pilots to learn how to fly safe. Doors are built to train crew to open doors in case of emergency.

The second category is creativity. There are many companies and people who use a piece of an aircraft into something special. From turning a large piece of aircraft into a hotel room, up to a key chain from the aircraft you flew once. Why not use a bag made from a life vests or whatch a movie at home from a comfortable old aircraft seat?
